OUR COLORADO HORSEBACK RIDING TOURS: WE STRAY FROM THE PATH, LITERALLY
What makes Sage Outdoors different is that our horses are mountain horses. Unlike trail horses, mountain horses are bred and trained for more challenging terrain such as slopes, rocky trails, and narrow paths. Mountain horses tend to be more agile, sure- footed, and have a higher endurance level, than your standard trail horse. They are also trained to be more independent and to think on their feet, as they may need to navigate tricky terrain without guidance.
The wranglers at Sage guarantee a unique horseback riding experience each time, riding through scenic wildflower covered fields, aspen groves, and at times vertical terrain. We encourage you to go off the trail and blaze our own path, As we climb to over 9,000ft with scenic views that overlook the entire Vail Valley.
Overall, mountain horses are an excellent choice for riders who want to explore the rugged terrain of Colorado by horseback.
SAGE STABLES: A PEACEFUL PARADISE FOR OUR HORSES
You won’t find a makeshift setup on the side of the road for Sage horses. Our 6,000 private acres are the perfect summer home for horses. We have 40 horses that operate on a work schedule, ensuring only 50% work each day, offering them a multitude of days off for free grazing and some R&R. Every horse has their own custom saddle and halter, suitable to their body type and personality. With an abundance of private land our horses free graze over 14 hours of the day in over 200 acres of open fields with natural creeks. Some mornings we even find them mingling next-door to our herd of 300 cattle as they move about the property.
The location is about 30 minutes from Beaver Creek and 40 minutes from Vail, with picturesque views of Castle Peak and the Sawatch Mountain Range.
