Experience a Winter Side-By-Side ATV Tour

As we kick off the 2021/2022 winter season, beautiful late fall weather has created an unexpected change of plans. For a limited time only, we’re offering side-by-side ATV tours on our 6,000-acre private mountain near Vail! These adventures will begin on Saturday, November 20th, 2021. We will continue to offer these trips into early December or until the snow makes us stop – at which point we’ll switch right over to snowmobiling adventures!

Wildlife near Beaver CreekWhat to Expect on your Winter ATV Trip

Take advantage of this opportunity to experience a “WHOOHOO” inducing ride on your own side-by-side ATV, on our own private mountain that’s bigger than Vail ski area. Our custom-built ATV trails wind through open meadows, aspen groves, and bring you incredible views of the entire Vail Valley. Our guests often enjoy seeing wintering wildlife here on the mountain, including elk and mule deer.

Even though the weather didn’t cooperate with our plans to open snowmobile tours by Thanksgiving, we’re stoked for this unique opportunity. Our trails are in perfect shape and this is a beautiful time of year to explore the mountain on an ATV ride.

When will Snowmobile Tours be available?

Don’t worry, our grooming snowcats and our fleet of new Ski-Doo Grand Touring snowmobiles aren’t going anywhere. The snow will arrive soon enough. And like most years that begin with unseasonably warm winter weather, it eventually catches up with higher than average snowfall later.

Winter Off-Road Tours in Colorado“Until then, we are loving the warm weather, the mountains and the wildlife,” Sage founder, Darryl Bangert recently commented. “Mother Nature always does what she does. We do not put our desires over the reality of the vagaries of Nature, we embrace the world as it is, and it is stunning.”

Come join us on a backcountry side-by-side ATV adventure while they are available! You can learn more about our ATV tours here or give us a call now at 970-476-3700 to book your trip.

See You On the Snow! Preparing For Snowmobile Season

Guided Snowmobiling Trips in Colorado

We are getting ready for an awesome snowmobile season in Colorado’s Vail Valley! The sleds are getting tuned and ready, trail groomers are ready to rock and the snow has already begun to fall at the higher elevations here in Colorado!

Preparing our Snowmobiles for another winter season

Preparing our Custom Snowmobile Playground

Here at Sage, we have the benefit of operating on a massive, 6,000-acre private mountain. If you’re looking for an escape from the lift lines and ski area crowds this winter, it doesn’t get any better than a snowmobile ride on this wild peaceful mountain.

Our mountain headquarters is home to a comfortable base of operations with a heated lodge and indoor restrooms. We’re continuing to take all precautions to clean and sanitize all surfaces and equipment for our guests’ safety.

And with 100 miles of perfectly groomed trails, sweeping views from the edge of the Eagle River Canyon, trails with views of six different mountain ranges, and an unbelievable variety of terrain, there’s plenty of space to roam. There’s no better way to experience winter in the beautiful Colorado high country.

The Sage Snowmobiling Tour Experience

We’ve always operated with a very small guide-to-guest ratio. We customize every tour to each group. No two tours around here are ever the same! We want all of our guests to appreciate the joy and freedom of snowmobiling in through beautiful mountain scenery – no matter your experience level.

Our tours are NOT a “follow me and keep up” experience. We teach our guests how to ride their snowmobiles and have more fun in the snow. In fact, 50 yards from the starting point are some incredible practice meadows. Guests have the opportunity to learn the feel of their sled in a perfect, wide-open setting, preparing them for the twists and turns of trails to come. There are a total of 10 free-ride meadows scattered throughout our 6,000-acre mountain playground.

Our High-End Snowmobiles

We are proud to offer guests the very best snowmobile technology. We have a stable of 90 high-end Ski-Doo snowmobiles. They are highly fuel-efficient four-stroke machines. They are incredibly quiet and offer superb handling.

With these industry-leading snowmobiles, we put our focus on our guests’ most-requested tour – and that’s the two-hour guided snowmobile tour. This is a perfect snowmobile experience for beginning riders. Skiing for half a day? Perfect! It’s so close to Vail and Beaver Creek, this is an ideal experience!

In addition to our two-hour guided tour, we also offer trips specifically for advanced riders. But no matter what tour you choose, our guides are there to be teachers. That is a major focus for all of our snowmobiling trips.

Snowmobiles and the Real Backcountry Experience

The recent changes in snowmobile technology are even more radical than the change in ski shape over the last 15 years. Emissions are incredibly low and the sport of snowmobiling is exploding. But what does that mean from an environmental perspective? How does snowmobiling compare to other winter sports in terms of its impact?

Who is Snowmobiling nowadays?

From young families to serious outdoor enthusiasts, snowmobiling is a fast-growing sport. Many skiers enjoy a quiet day away from the busy slopes and a chance to do something different with their families. Here at Sage, it’s not uncommon for us to see three generations of riders together on a tour.

The number-one reason our customers say they go snowmobiling is to “experience the wilderness.” To us, this isn’t surprising at all. It’s true, that backcountry experience is the primary draw for most snowmobile riders.

Common Misconceptions about Snowmobiling

Unfortunately, there’s also a great deal of misperception about snowmobiling. Some folks see them as noisy and polluting. In reality, neither is true. Our modern snowmobiles are incredibly quiet. You are more likely to hear the crunch of the tracks on the snow than you are the engine. And with low emissions and no smell, snowmobiles offer a perfect escape from the bustle of the ski slopes into the tranquility of the mountains.

Snowmobiling through Undisturbed Nature

Our 6,000-acre private mountain near Vail and Beaver Creek is home to resident mule deer, elk, and other wildlife. Our riders frequently see wildlife here on the mountain, where they stay undisturbed through the winter. In terms of environmental impact, a snowmobile ride is far more “green” than a day of riding ski lifts. All of our guided trips give our guests the opportunity to stop, look, listen and just enjoy being still in these stunning places.

Snowmobiling environment

In the end, our guests’ favorite part of these trips is also our favorite part. We’re here because we love the experience. We are skiers too. But a snowmobile ride offers the chance to escape from the crowds and experience the still silence of the backcountry and the mountains in winter.

For more information on our guided snowmobile tours, please take a look at our Snowmobiling Page. Or give us a call at 970-476-3700. We hope to see you here for a snowmobiling adventure soon!

Our Private Winter Snowmobiling Base

Having a base of operations on a beautiful private mountain near Vail, Colorado allows us to offer a snowmobiling experience that’s unrivaled. It’s one of our greatest points of pride here at Sage Outdoor Adventures. It’s a big part of what makes us different.

The Benefits of a Private Mountain Experience

A snowmobile tour with us means having access to 6,000 rideable acres. What does that mean for our guests? To put it in perspective, that’s bigger than the Vail ski area, and it’s entirely yours. The only people you’ll see on the entire mountain are other Sage guests. Most tour companies rely on Forest Service permits: they are forced to deal with public conditions and are restricted to specific trails and small play areas.

Winter Season in Vail, CO is a Snowmobiling paradise

Our riders get to explore the entire mountain. This mountain paradise has 2,500 feet of vertical, more than 100 miles of maintained trails, and expansive meadows for open riding. Our base of operations sits at 8,100 feet elevation, the same as Vail and Beaver Creek Villages. Most of our mountain is north-facing, which preserves snow conditions on our trails.

A Base Cabin with Stunning Views of the Winter Landscape

Finally, the private mountain experience offers an unparalleled level of comfort. Whereas operators on public trails are forced to use temporary check-in trailers and outhouses, our guests enjoy a cozy cabin at our mountain base. Our base is nestled in a scenic valley with incredible views. The cabin is a great place for customers to relax, with wood-burning stoves, fully equipped restrooms, and a 5,000 square-foot deck overlooking the valley.

Private Snowmobiling Trails

Trail quality is another major point of pride. Our crew sets the standard for excellent trails and grooming. We operate three Snowcats for grooming, plus five drag groomers that are pulled by snowmobiles. Trail maintenance takes a lot of effort and our team is the best in the business. On a snowmobile ride with us, you won’t have to worry about hitting washboard sections or nasty dips. You’ll be free to enjoy the incredible scenery and an experience like nowhere else!

a Private Mountain allows for an Exclusive Snowmobiling Experience

The best mountain and the greatest facilities wouldn’t mean what they do without our incredible team. Our people are still what make a Sage experience truly special – but having the opportunity to operate in such an incredible location sure doesn’t hurt!

Our Advanced Deep Powder Snowmobile Tours

Winter in Vail, Colorado, brings with it subzero temperatures and chilled winds – but it also means it’s finally time to rev up the snowmobile engines and hit the snow. Vail averages at 108 inches of snowfall per year, making it the perfect area to plow through deep powder and carve up Sage’s private mountain!

Our Snowmobiling Tours

Most of our snowmobile tours are 2-hour beginner and intermediate tours where we teach our guests how to ride their machines and get the most out of their experience.

With over 100 miles of custom-designed trails on a private mountain that is larger than Vail’s Ski Mountain, these are the ideal trips for families and anyone that wants to have a passenger on the snowmobile with them. They also make great tours for those looking to see the sights and get a feel for what snowmobiling is like!

However, if you’re ready to take things up a notch, you may want to consider our advanced snowmobile tours.

Deep Powder Snowmobiling

Our advanced tour  uses 120-horsepower Ski-Doo mountain snowmobiles. These sleds are designed specifically for off-trail riding, with powerful engines and agility that allow you to carve up snow like never before!

These are incredible machines and on our advanced tours, we teach our guests how to ride in deep powder, climb steep hills and navigate through trees. This is guaranteed to be the most exciting snowmobile ride you can do!

Just like our beginner and intermediate tours, this is not a “follow the guide and keep up” kind of experience. We operate with very small guide-to-guest ratios. Each tour is personalized, and we take the time to make sure our guests are learning, having fun, and really experiencing the thrill of the Colorado backcountry.

Sage’s Snowmobiling Terrain

In addition to the advanced snowmobiling terrain across our mountain, we have 10 free-ride meadows scattered throughout the 6000-acre ranch. These wide-open spaces allow everyone to get their full-throttle therapy and test the abilities of their machine and themselves! With our high-end grooming equipment, these free-ride areas are groomed on a regular basis.

That’s one of the things that makes snowmobiling here different. Since our 6,000-acre ranch is a private area, there are no other tour operators. You’ll have the place to yourself, with the only other people out in the snow being other Sage guests! That means you’re more likely to enjoy untouched deep powder snow and pristine trails.

Our three snowcats regularly crawl the terrain to keep it in prime condition so that you can enjoy the thrill of the ride. From the ranch, you’ll enjoy views of seven mountain ranges, the continental divide and the 2,400-foot chasm into the Eagle River Canyon. In short, snowmobiling at Sage is bound to be on of the best rides of your life!
