Ready for summer and some warmer weather? Tell us about it! Here at Sage, the summer season offers an endless array of adventures, including one of our favorites: whitewater rafting!
As the sun starts to shine and melt the heaps of snow winter brought, spring runoff flows down the mountains of central Colorado and announces the beginning of rafting season. From whitewater adventures to scenic family float trips, the wild rivers of Colorado are the perfect setting for lifelong memories.
A Guide to Our Rafting Trip Options
Thinking about joining us on one of the rivers? Below, Cole Bangert and Joe Tomasic give some insight into the rafting trip options that we have available at Sage. Then, take a look at our rafting classifications and book a trip!
Class II Rafting Trips
Our rafting trips on the upper Colorado River are perfect for families of all ages. You’ll raft through incredible canyon scenery, experience small rapids, and have plenty of time to play and splash in the River. Participants as young as 3 years old can get in on the fun.
Class III Rafting Trips
We have a wide variety of Class III trips available on the Colorado River, Gore Creek, the lower Eagle River, and the Arkansas River. These whitewater trips are a ton of fun! Some of our class III trips are available to rafters as young as 6-years-old, while others can be more challenging. Depending on the age of participants, how much time you have, and what you’d like to experience, we can help plan the perfect summer rafting adventure.
Class IV+ Rafting Trips
For the adventure seekers, we have incredible class IV and V trips available on the upper Eagle River and the Arkansas River. For rafters ages 16 and up, these are some memorable trips on some of the best whitewater in the country!

It’s our own little slice of heaven in Colorado. We’re blessed to enjoy this private mountain, all on a 6,000-acre ranch. It’s an incredible experience for families. And it’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else.
Our private mountain has more acreage than Vail ski area – without the lift lines. In fact, it’s exclusive to Sage guests. We’ve got the whole place to ourselves, creating an idyllic family snowmobile experience:
Snowmobiling here is special, “because we put the trails where we want to put the trails.” All 100+ miles of them! A fleet of snowcats and grooming equipment maintains our custom-designed trail system that runs throughout this spectacular mountain area.
It’s an authentic, Colorado backcountry experience. You’ll experience the quiet stillness of snowy aspen groves and towering spruce forests. You’ll glide through open meadows and then look off the vertical red-rock cliffs of the Eagle River canyon.
Your friendly guides, outstanding trails and a private mountain environment will make this a family experience to remember. Passengers as young as 5-years-old can enjoy a true Colorado mountain experience on the snow.
To learn more, please explore our Snowmobile Trips on the website. If you have questions or would like to speak with someone about a trip, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 970-476-3700. We’d love to help you plan a memorable Colorado snowmobile adventure!
One of the things we love most about our jobs here at Sage Outdoor Adventures is being a part of our customers’ experience in the mountains and some very memorable moments.
Not all of those moments are this exceptional, but we recently had the opportunity to witness one of our customers proposing to his now fiancé on a snowmobile tour. Check out the video below.
Congratulations! We’re glad we could be a part of such a special memory! And it gave us a few ideas about what is needed for the perfect mountaintop proposal.
Beautiful Mountain Views
A proposal will be memorable no matter what, but why not make those memories as stunning as the moment? If you’re planning on popping the question on a mountaintop, be sure to do some preemptive research on the views and the weather for the special day. Here at Sage, our lucky couple had multiple snowcapped mountain ranges surrounding them, all filled with Colorado’s jaw-dropping natural beauty.
Study the Trail Map
Sage employs a group of knowledgeable guides to escort you across our 6000 acres private mountain, who can show you all the best adventures and views. So this couple could sit back and enjoy the moment without having to navigate back home. However, if you are planning on a private proposal on a mountain of your choosing, be sure to study the trail map! You don’t want your proposal to be sidelined by getting lost on your way back home to celebrate.
A Group of Close Friends (or Not)
Adventuring through the wilds of Colorado is always fun, and is often an occasion for shared memories for a family or friend group – and a proposal is certainly memorable! Depending on what you and your partner prefer, inviting friends and family along for the ride can make the proposal even more special. Or, if you want a more intimate affair, opt for a private adventure to the peak. Just be sure to capture the moment for your loved ones!
Whether you’re vacationing with friends or family or just looking for a beautiful mountain experience, there’s nothing quite like a backcountry snowmobile adventure on one of the most historic and scenic private ranches in the Vail Valley!

Winter activities here at Sage Outdoor Adventures don’t end with snowmobiling. In addition to tours on the snow, this 6,000-acre ranch is home to one the finest sporting clays facilities in the Vail Valley and anywhere in Colorado for that matter. Colorado’s sunny winter days are a great time for groups to enjoy our sporting clays with a five-stand lesson.
When the sun is shining like it is this week, groups are having a blast! Winter shooting is open for groups of 10 or more. Our five-stand lesson will cover the fundamentals of sporting clays and of course, gun safety. “Five-Stand” is an exciting type of shotgun shooting that has clay targets coming from multiple directions. It’s a great time for family groups, corporate groups or bachelor/bachelorette parties.
Here are a few photos from earlier this week:
Whether you’re an experienced shooter or a total novice, our excellent instructors will make everyone feel welcome. The five-stand lesson usually ends with a friendly group competition! We use a combination of 12, 20 and 28 gauge shotguns to fit anyone’s experience level and size.
Just like our snowmobile tours, the winter sporting clays here at Sage Outdoor Adventures include complimentary transportation from your hotel. We provide shotguns, ammo, targets, a shooting vest, and ear and eye protection.
To learn more about the experience, please see our Winter Shooting Page. To book your group or to ask any questions, please call us at 970-476-3700. We look forward to seeing you here at the ranch soon for some winter sporting clays!
