2018 Rafting Trips and Summer Adventure on the Horizon

Spring is here and we’re already looking forward with anticipation to some awesome 2018 rafting trips and summer adventures right around the corner!

Playing in the snow is a blast, but it’s usually around this time when we start dreaming of playing in the water. Before we know it, we’ll be pushing off for another awesome whitewater season. This summer, we will also be enjoying beautiful horseback rides, side-by-side ATV rides, fly fishing and sporting clays.

The 2018 rafting season in Colorado kicks off in May and we offer rafting trips to suit any group, from family-friendly outings to adrenaline-packed adventures.

First, our Float Series rafting trips are perfect families and groups of all ages. Explore the upper Colorado River and travel through scenic canyons while you enjoy splashing through waves and lazy swimming holes.

Next, our Adventures Series includes Class III whitewater trips with the excitement of rapids, plus some killer Colorado scenery. There are a wide variety of trips in the Adventure Series and we can easily customize these floats. They include stretches of the Colorado River, Gore Creek, the lower Eagle River and the world-renown Brown’s Canyon on the Arkansas River.

Finally, we offer some incredible Adrenaline Series trips for Colorado’s best nonstop whitewater action. The most famous stretches of river in Colorado are the Numbers and Pine Creek Sections of the Arkansas River. But don’t overlook the Eagle River. The Eagle is home to some awesome whitewater and we believe it’s one of the most underrated in Colorado.

In addition to these many rafting adventures, we’re looking forward to another summer of fun at our base of operations on a historic ranch near Vail. Here at our base, we’ve got 6,000 acres to explore on horseback and ATV. In this private setting, we have the mountain to ourselves where we’re free to explore Colorado’s alpine country. From here we enjoy views of seven different mountain ranges and overlooks of the jaw-dropping Eagle River Canyon.

Epic Colorado Combo Trips: Snowmobile and ATV Adventures

ATV and Snowmobile Combo Trip

What’s better than one kind of adventure? Two, of course! We’re now offering some awesome Colorado combo adventures. It’s a unique opportunity for combination side-by-side ATV and Snowmobile trips.

It continues to be a bizarre winter in the Vail Valley, with unseasonably warm temperatures and low snowpack. But that doesn’t mean we’re not having fun around here! In fact, we’re having an absolute blast here at Sage.

For our visitors in the Vail Valley and Beaver Creek areas, there’s no shortage of awesome things to do. We are still offering beautiful winter horseback rides. And we’ve now added something even more unique.

For a very limited time, we are offering side-by-side ATV and snowmobile trips! These adventures allow guests to explore this 6,000-acre private ranch with more than 100 miles of custom trails. That’s an area larger than Vail ski area.

These trips take guests through big open meadows, old growth timber, stunning aspen groves, and jaw-dropping views over the 2,400-foot deep Eagle River Canyon. From up here we’ve got views of seven different mountain ranges. It’s simply a spectacular experience.

Trips start at our base of operations, just a short ride from Vail or Beaver Creek, where we offer free hotel pickup. From the base, guests get to drive our high-end, side-by-side Maverick UTVs up the mountain and through one of the most historic ranches in the valley.

When the snow starts getting deep, guests then hop onto one of our new Ski-Doo snowmobiles and continue the tour through this magical winter wonderland.

Our side-by-side UTV tours are regularly a higher cost than the snowmobile trips. But because we have to improvise this winter, we’re allowing guests to drive these $20,000 machines for the same price as a regular snowmobile tour!

Wildlife near Beaver Creek

Not only is the ranch beautiful right now, but also it’s loaded with wildlife. Our guests are seeing deer and coyotes daily, including some rare predator/prey interactions. Because of the low snowpack this season, the deer herds have not needed to migrate further down the Vail valley floor. They’ve stayed here on the ranch, and that’s keeping coyotes and other wildlife around too. In fact, some of our guests have been lucky enough to see mountain lion tracks.

These wildlife interactions have been a daily treat for our guests. While the weather certainly hasn’t been what we expected this season, it has been a memorable one. If you’re visiting the Vail or Beaver Creek area this winter, be sure to give us a call and join us on one of these Colorado backcountry adventures!

December Wildlife Adventures in the Vail Valley

If you’re visiting or soon to visit the Vail Valley this holiday season, you may already be aware that the weather here has provided some unusual circumstances. Rather than snowmobiling this time of year, we are still enjoying some awesome side-by-side ATV tours and December wildlife adventures.

We finally received a little snow on the ranch this week. But it’s not enough yet for snowmobiling. But there is one neat benefit to this shallow snow cover through the woods and on our trails…it’s perfect conditions for studying wildlife tracks.

The mild weather this month means that deer and other wildlife have not yet migrated further down the valley floor. Wildlife is still on the ranch in abundance. And the light snowpack has proven to be a fun discovery for our guests.

Wildlife near Beaver Creek“To us, it is an open book of what’s going on, 24 hours a day,” said Sage founder Darryl Bangert. “We’ve been able to clearly see deer, does and their fawns meandering as they feed then bed down for day or night. We’ve followed the tracks of big bull elk traveling through the area. And we’ve even found mountain lion tracks as they stalk, chase, and capture deer.

“We’ve had a great time stopping to study the tracks and to teach our guests what they are, and how to read these stories in the snow,” Darryl continued. “We’ve found tracks from wild turkeys, coyotes, ermine, rabbits and squirrels. We’ve seen big golden eagles almost daily, many times sitting on their prey.”

At first glance, December in a ski town without much snow might seem like a drag. But these last few weeks have provided a rare opportunity to enjoy the mountains in a different way. While we’re looking forward to getting on those snowmobiles, these unusual wildlife adventures have certainly been a pleasure.

And as is typically the case, when one month is more dry than normal, another month will usually make up for it. Last winter also began with little snowfall, but ended with the highest snowpack in several years. The snow will come. In the meantime, we’ll be enjoying the mountains on four wheels!

Making Lemonade: Late Season Side-by-Side ATV Adventures

The weather this fall has not cooperated with our plans for snowmobile tours. And with no significant snowfall in the forecast, we’re taking those lemons and making something extraordinary.

This beautiful late fall weather has provided the opportunity for some fantastic side-by-side ATV Trips! Our trails are in perfect shape and we’ve got more than 100 miles of scenic routes available. With the mild weather, wildlife is still abundant here on the ranch near Vail and Beaver Creek.

Side-by-Side ToursTo celebrate this unique opportunity, we have just purchased 8 more top-of-the-line side-by-sides. This brings our total fleet to 20 units, allowing us to host groups large and small, on diverse tours through this spectacular Colorado landscape.

Our new snowcat is here, commiserating with our fleet of 100 snowmobiles. But it will snow soon enough. And like most years that begin with unseasonably warm winter weather, it eventually catches up with higher than average snowfall later – just like last year!

“Until then, we are loving the warm weather, the mountains and the wildlife,” Sage founder, Darryl Bangert recently commented. “Mother Nature always does what she does. We do not put our desires over the reality of the vagaries of Nature, we embrace the world as it is, and it is stunning.”

Come join us on a backcountry side-by-side adventure this month! You can contact us online for details or give us a call now at 970-476-3700.

Thanks for a Great Summer Season – See You on the Snow!

Sage Outdoor Adventures is officially closed for the summer season. We’d like to give a shout out to all of our summer guests – thank you for joining us on a Colorado outdoor adventure this year! We enjoyed meeting each one of you and we look forward to seeing you again.

The summer of 2017 was a memorable one. With huge snowpack coming into the spring, we enjoyed some incredible rafting trips.  From right here in the Vail valley on Gore Creek and the Eagle River, down to the Colorado River and even the Arkansas, water conditions were ideal this year.

All that spring moisture also meant that we had a beautiful wildflower season on the ranch near Vail. Our horseback riders and side-by-side ATV riders had the opportunity to enjoy huge fields of wildflowers and green conditions throughout most of the summer. There’s no bad time to explore the ranch on horseback or ATV. But when there are flowers popping everywhere, it’s sure hard to beat.

As the summer season is now closed, we are anxiously looking forward to snowfall! We will open our winter snowmobiling operation just in time for Thanksgiving. If you’re planning a holiday trip to Vail or Beaver Creek, be sure to give us a call. Snowmobile rides are a ton of fun for the entire family. This historic ranch is larger than Vail ski area! And the views of the valley are absolutely incredible. So take a few hours away from the bustle of the ski areas and enjoy a peaceful, backcountry ride through this winter wonderland.

For more information on our snowmobile trips, please check out our snowmobiling page. For details or to reserve your trip, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 970-476-3700 or contact us online.

See you on the snow soon!
