Enjoying Our New Snowmobile Area Improvements

Snowmobile Area

Last year, we made some major changes to our snowmobiling program here at Sage. And as we approach the 2018-2019 winter season, we are excited for these big improvements!

We are extremely proud of our snowmobile program, which was already one of the most highly rated in the state. In fact, Sage Outdoor Adventures boasts Trip Advisor’s highest rating for outdoor activities in the Vail area.

Some of the new snowmobile improvements include a totally redesigned trail system, and a new state-of-the-art snowcat for improved trail grooming and maintenance.

Snowmobiling

Throughout last year, the guides and designers of Sage’s snowmobile trail system spent a great deal of time and work on the new design. The team built a custom network of trails that is specifically designed with our snowmobile guests in mind.

“We considered the area’s geology, vegetation, wind patterns and snow deposition zones,” commented Sage co-owner and head trail designer, Darryl Bangert. “Other major factors that went into this trail redesign included trail flow, view corridors and some of our guides’ favorite places to discover with guests.”

We are thrilled to run our snowmobile operations on a private ranch near Vail, a property that covers more than 6,000 acres. The area has proven to be an ideal base of operations for snowmobile tours, with 2,500 feet of vertical relief on a north-facing mountain. Sage’s base area sits at 8,100 feet above sea level, the same as Vail and Beaver Creek.

The terrain here lends itself to incredible riding trails, and the area is actually larger than the Vail ski area.

“Imagine being able to design the ski runs on Vail Mountain, and then consider that we get to design snowmobile trails on an even bigger area,” Bangert added. “We are all passionate about riding and discovering the most fun routes. Our extensive background hiking and cross country skiing gives us great insight into the intimate feel of the land.”

Sage Outdoor Adventures has over 100 miles of marked trails and 25 different loop routes. Sage also has more open meadow riding than the combined bowl area of Vail Mountain.

In addition to the re-designed trail system, Sage has a 2018 Prinoth Husky Snowcat. This state-of-the-art cat is now a part of Sage’s grooming fleet, and will allow the team at Sage to maintain the best possible trail quality.

Guests in Vail and Beaver Creek expect a high-level product, and Sage’s grooming efforts are second-to-none.

“We want our guests to learn the machines and to enjoy the views, not fight with poorly groomed terrain,” Bangert concluded.

Making Lemonade: Late Season Side-by-Side ATV Adventures

The weather this fall has not cooperated with our plans for snowmobile tours. And with no significant snowfall in the forecast, we’re taking those lemons and making something extraordinary.

This beautiful late fall weather has provided the opportunity for some fantastic side-by-side ATV Trips! Our trails are in perfect shape and we’ve got more than 100 miles of scenic routes available. With the mild weather, wildlife is still abundant here on the ranch near Vail and Beaver Creek.

Side-by-Side ToursTo celebrate this unique opportunity, we have just purchased 8 more top-of-the-line side-by-sides. This brings our total fleet to 20 units, allowing us to host groups large and small, on diverse tours through this spectacular Colorado landscape.

Our new snowcat is here, commiserating with our fleet of 100 snowmobiles. But it will snow soon enough. And like most years that begin with unseasonably warm winter weather, it eventually catches up with higher than average snowfall later – just like last year!

“Until then, we are loving the warm weather, the mountains and the wildlife,” Sage founder, Darryl Bangert recently commented. “Mother Nature always does what she does. We do not put our desires over the reality of the vagaries of Nature, we embrace the world as it is, and it is stunning.”

Come join us on a backcountry side-by-side adventure this month! You can contact us online for details or give us a call now at 970-476-3700.

3 Things You Need For Every Colorado Summer Adventure

The Sage crew is busy preparing for the summer season here in Vail, Colorado. We’ve got all-new rafting equipment coming in for our guests, we’re getting ATVs ready to ride, making improvements to our sporting clays course, and prepping our ranch facilities for horseback riding. There’s a lot to do, but summer can’t come soon enough!

As you prepare for your own summer adventures, here are three easy-to-overlook items that you’ll need for any Colorado summer adventure. Whether you’re on the water or on the trail, don’t forget to pack these critical items.

  1. Sunblock

In the Colorado high country, the sun comes full-strength. If you appreciate your skin, don’t leave home, or your hotel room without it. We’ve seen plenty of folks put a damper on their trip by getting burned on the first day. Whether you’re out for a couple hours of horseback riding or a full day of rafting, take the time to apply some sunblock, even if you don’t burn easily.

  1. Sunglasses

Again, the sun here in the Rockies runs hot. And it can be hard on your eyes if you’re not wearing UV protection. Glare from water and snow can be particularly harmful. Be sure to pack a pair of sunglasses when you set out for a day of adventuring. If you’re headed for the river, don’t forget sunglass straps!

  1. Water Bottle

The arid Rocky Mountain climate and the high altitude combine to cause quick dehydration. Headaches are the most common reaction to altitude. Fortunately, drinking plenty of water is usually the best prevention. And in an effort to limit the large amount of waste generated by plastic bottles, remember to bring your own reusable water bottle on each day’s adventure.

Finally, don’t forget to have fun! A smile and a sense of adventure will go a long way in the mountains.
