Sage Outdoor Adventures is officially closed for the summer season. We’d like to give a shout out to all of our summer guests – thank you for joining us on a Colorado outdoor adventure this year! We enjoyed meeting each one of you and we look forward to seeing you again.
The summer of 2017 was a memorable one. With huge snowpack coming into the spring, we enjoyed some incredible rafting trips. From right here in the Vail valley on Gore Creek and the Eagle River, down to the Colorado River and even the Arkansas, water conditions were ideal this year.
All that spring moisture also meant that we had a beautiful wildflower season on the ranch near Vail. Our horseback riders and side-by-side ATV riders had the opportunity to enjoy huge fields of wildflowers and green conditions throughout most of the summer. There’s no bad time to explore the ranch on horseback or ATV. But when there are flowers popping everywhere, it’s sure hard to beat.
As the summer season is now closed, we are anxiously looking forward to snowfall! We will open our winter snowmobiling operation just in time for Thanksgiving. If you’re planning a holiday trip to Vail or Beaver Creek, be sure to give us a call. Snowmobile rides are a ton of fun for the entire family. This historic ranch is larger than Vail ski area! And the views of the valley are absolutely incredible. So take a few hours away from the bustle of the ski areas and enjoy a peaceful, backcountry ride through this winter wonderland.

The whitewater-rafting season in Colorado is in full swing and we’ve enjoyed an awesome summer so far. With heavy spring snowpack across the state, we’ve experienced fun high water conditions throughout June and now well into July. Even as the summer moves along, most rivers are still running at normal or above normal levels.
Right here in the Vail valley we experienced outstanding rafting conditions on Gore Creek and the Eagle River. Now the Arkansas River and the Colorado River are also running at perfect levels. And with the warm summer weather that we’ve had, conditions have been ideal to be out playing in the water.
While our headquarters are here in Vail and most of our business comes from the Vail and Beaver Creek area, we offer a wide range of rafting options. From class II family floats to class IV and V adventures, it’s all available. In addition to our ‘home waters’ on Gore Creek, the Eagle River and the Colorado River, we also offer trips along the Arkansas, including the famed, “Numbers” section and Browns Canyon National Monument.
In case you didn’t see it, be sure and check out our blog post from last week, highlighting the Arkansas River and some of its highlights.
With warm weather and great water levels, we expect rafting conditions this year to be excellent well into the fall. If you’re planning a summer trip to the Vail or Beaver Creek area, be sure and give us a call. While the summertime rafting is awesome, there’s also something very special about those early fall trips. After all, there’s nothing quite like September in Colorado!

Have mediocre memories of a nose-to-tail horseback ride? You can forget those. Here at Sage, we ride a beautiful mountain ranch the size of Vail ski area. Not bound by Forest Service trails, we make our own. Experience the wide-open feel of Colorado’s backcountry on a horseback ride through aspen groves, wildflowers and along mountain lakes.
What makes a horseback ride different with Sage Stables? It’s the 6,000-acre historic ranch near Vail and Beaver Creek. Not bound by Forest Service permits or trail restrictions, our rides allow you to freely explore. Our horses are trained to ride side-by-side rather than following the leader. Meander through meadows and through stands of old-growth forest.
You won’t find us at a temporary corral on the side of a Forest Service Road. Here on the ranch, Sage Stables is an idyllic summer home for our horses. Our experienced staff and wranglers will make sure you feel comfortable and safe, ready to explore beautiful new country on horseback.

This winter, the Vail Valley and the rest of Colorado has experienced some of the best early season snow conditions that we’ve seen in years. With snowpack reaching nearly 150% of normal, our snowmobile tours this season have been incredible! If you haven’t been paying attention, be sure to follow us on Instagram, @sageoutdoors or like our Facebook page at Facebook.com/SageOutdoors.
All this snow came before the middle of February and that means there’s more in store! Another series of storms is predicted over the next week that will provide our snowmobile tours with a nice “reset” for powder conditions. Then consider that March is typically the wettest month in Colorado. We can expect to see great spring break snowmobiling conditions. And with a hefty snowpack, visitors to the Vail and Beaver Creek area could have great spring snowmobiling opportunities all the way through April.
For many of us here at Sage, snowmobiling is only one of the perks of a healthy snowpack. Our rafting guides are already drooling at the prospect of an epic runoff season. With this much snow in the high country, we could be looking at a great summer of whitewater rafting adventures.
Currently, snowpack in the Colorado River basin and statewide is at about 145% of normal. Here’s to hoping that we see a few more big storms before the winter is out!
For more information on our guided snowmobile tours, please check out our Snowmobiling Page. Other activities include horseback riding, ATV tours, sporting clays and fly fishing.
Valentine’s Day is around the corner and this is your friendly reminder to plan something memorable for your loved one! Whether you buy into the commercial hype or not, everyone likes to be thought of. And what better way to let your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse or fiancé know that you’re thinking of them, than to plan a scenic, mountain snowmobile ride?
The snow conditions are incredible here on our private mountain ranch near Vail, Colorado. Skip the lift likes and sweep your valentine away into the beauty of the backcountry. Enjoy 6,000 acres of private mountain terrain, hundreds of miles of trails and comfortable, quiet new snowmobiles. Our tours provide an idyllic mountain experience with some of the best views overlooking the entire Vail Valley, across Avon, Beaver Creek and Eagle.
Not to add any pressure, but last month we witnessed one of our guests proposing to his girlfriend atop a picturesque lookout. No pressure, guys!
But in all seriousness, we do work our best to make these rides a very memorable and impactful experience not just for couples, but also for families and groups of friends. Nestled in a beautiful spot on one of the largest and most historic ranches in the valley, we are very proud to offer such a unique mountain experience.
We offer free hotel pickup and in less than 30 minutes you’ll be at our base of operations on the ranch, with a cozy check-in cabin, equipment room and a 5,000 square foot deck.
