What should you wear on your fishing trip?TX

The weather in Colorado is notorious for being unpredictable, dressing in layers or bringing a backpack with extra clothes is recommended. Even if your trip starts out sunny and warm, rainstorms can move in quickly in the mountains, so bringing a raincoat is highly recommended.

Can we keep the fish we catch?TX

No, SAGE and every other fishing outfitter in the Vail Valley adhere to strict catch and release fishing practices.

Am I guaranteed to catch a fish?TX

You are guaranteed to have an incredible fly fishing experience. You are guaranteed to learn or improve on the art of fly fishing in some of the most beautiful landscapes in the lower 48 states with a trained, professional fly fishing guide that will do everything in their power to put you on trout without fishing for you themselves. Some days the trout cooperate more than others and always know; to catch fish it’s not the best fisherman, it’s the best listener. There is a reason it’s called “fishing” and not “catching”!

Do I need a fishing license?TX

Yes, a $16.75 Colorado fishing license is required. All participants must purchase a license online with their smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer. Links to do this will be in your confirmation information that we will email to you know the booking is complete.

What if I’ve never fished before?TX

Even better, we won’t have any bad habits to break! All of our guides are set up to teach the complete beginner as well as help inconsistencies faced by the experienced fisherman. In an average day, we take out more beginners than fly fishing “pros” and all come back with a better appreciation for the sport and memories to last a lifetime. Don’t be intimidated, come give it a try!

What if the weather is bad?TX

There’s never a bad day to go fly fishing and we do fish rain or shine. Colorado weather can be all over the place, however most rain doesn’t stick around longer than 30 minutes. We recommend bringing a solid rain jacket and a positive attitude. Weather typically makes the fishing that much better. It has been said, “The two best times to fish is when its raining, and when it aint” – Patrick F. Mcmanus

Is gratuity for the guide customary?TX
