Tag Us With #SageOutdoors in Your Summer Adventure Photos!

This summer we’ve had so much fun with visitors to the Vail Valley from all over the U.S. and the world! Most of our guides will tell you that the best part of their job is having the opportunity to meet so many awesome folks and to show them this beautiful Colorado mountain country.

We love seeing and sharing all the great photos that our guests share on social media. We count ourselves very fortunate to be a part of your vacation memories. Being able to look back and see some of those photos makes it that much more special.

If you’re visiting the Vail or Beaver Creek area this summer and enjoy an adventure with us, we would encourage you to tag us with #sageoutdoors on Instagram. Whether you are getting ready to hit the river, on a side-by-side ATV tour, a horseback ride, fly fishing or shooting sporting clays, we would love to see it and share it with the rest of the Sage Outdoor Adventures family!

You can also tag us with our full business name at #sageoutdooradventures but the shorter version, #sageoutdoors will work just fine. Be sure and search those hashtags to see all of the other fun shenanigans going on around here!

Our summer rafting season is still going full-force, and the ATV rides have been a blast this summer. And all that spring snowmelt didn’t just benefit the rafting. Our horseback riding guests have enjoyed a wonderful year for wildflowers. No matter what you snap a picture of, be sure and hashtag it with #sageoutdoors so that we can share it with everyone!

Featured River Profile: The Eagle River

It’s time to get to know some of the incredible stretches of whitewater here in Colorado! This state has incredible rafting opportunities, and we’d like to introduce you to one of our favorites. In case you’re not already familiar, here’s a look at the Eagle River.

If you’ve never had the opportunity to raft the Eagle River, you need to make time!

“Right now is prime season for the Eagle River and when it flows, it’s some of the best whitewater in the nation, no joke,” said Sage Outdoor Adventures owner and river guide, Cole Bangert. “All the river enthusiasts in the state flock here during peak season. If the prime season on the Eagle ran longer into the summer, it would rival the Arkansas River in use numbers.”

While the Arkansas’ long rafting season makes it the most famous river in the state by a long stretch, the Eagle is perhaps the most underrated. Because during its peak-rafting season, there is nothing else like it. It’s long, steady gradient drops with awesome class 3 and 4 rapids the entire way, including a continuous, mile-long class 4 rapid!

“The Eagle River is unique in the sense that it has a very steady gradient,” Bangert said. “Specifically, the upper section from Minturn to Avon has a very steady drop. As the water rises with snowmelt, the fun increases. It’s pretty much a 10 mile wave train.”

Perhaps the Eagle River’s most famous stretch is Dowd Chute.

“This is a fire hose of a rapid,” Bangert commented. “It’s class 4-plus and it’s fast and steep with big pushy waves. The last wave is named Tyson’s, as it delivers a very heavy hit. Paddlers in the front of the boat generally end up in the laps of the people in the back of the boat on this hit.”

After Dowd chute, the fun isn’t over. In fact, the rest of the upper Eagle River features 10 miles of outstanding class 4 whitewater, culminating in the “Edwards Mile”, a mile-long class 4 rapid with continuous huge waves.

Get Western on a Horseback Ride With Sage

Have mediocre memories of a nose-to-tail horseback ride? You can forget those. Here at Sage, we ride a beautiful mountain ranch the size of Vail ski area. Not bound by Forest Service trails, we make our own. Experience the wide-open feel of Colorado’s backcountry on a horseback ride through aspen groves, wildflowers and along mountain lakes.

What makes a horseback ride different with Sage Stables? It’s the 6,000-acre historic ranch near Vail and Beaver Creek. Not bound by Forest Service permits or trail restrictions, our rides allow you to freely explore. Our horses are trained to ride side-by-side rather than following the leader. Meander through meadows and through stands of old-growth forest.

You won’t find us at a temporary corral on the side of a Forest Service Road. Here on the ranch, Sage Stables is an idyllic summer home for our horses. Our experienced staff and wranglers will make sure you feel comfortable and safe, ready to explore beautiful new country on horseback.

Take Your Valentine On a Scenic Snowmobile Ride

Date Ideas

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and this is your friendly reminder to plan something memorable for your loved one! Whether you buy into the commercial hype or not, everyone likes to be thought of. And what better way to let your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse or fiancé know that you’re thinking of them, than to plan a scenic, mountain snowmobile ride?

The snow conditions are incredible here on our private mountain ranch near Vail, Colorado. Skip the lift likes and sweep your valentine away into the beauty of the backcountry. Enjoy 6,000 acres of private mountain terrain, hundreds of miles of trails and comfortable, quiet new snowmobiles. Our tours provide an idyllic mountain experience with some of the best views overlooking the entire Vail Valley, across Avon, Beaver Creek and Eagle.

Not to add any pressure, but last month we witnessed one of our guests proposing to his girlfriend atop a picturesque lookout. No pressure, guys!

But in all seriousness, we do work our best to make these rides a very memorable and impactful experience not just for couples, but also for families and groups of friends. Nestled in a beautiful spot on one of the largest and most historic ranches in the valley, we are very proud to offer such a unique mountain experience.

We offer free hotel pickup and in less than 30 minutes you’ll be at our base of operations on the ranch, with a cozy check-in cabin, equipment room and a 5,000 square foot deck.

The Perks of Private Ranch Snowmobiling

Having a base of operations on a beautiful private ranch near Vail, Colorado allows us to offer a snowmobiling experience that’s unrivaled. It’s one of our greatest points of pride here at Sage Outdoor Adventures. It’s a big part of what makes us different.

A snowmobile tour with us means having access to 6,000 rideable acres. What does that mean for our guests? To put it in perspective, that’s bigger than the Vail ski area. And it’s entirely private. The only people you’ll see on the entire ranch are other Sage guests. Tour companies that rely on Forest Service or BLM permits are forced to deal with public conditions and are restricted to specific trails and small play areas. Our riders explore the entire ranch with over 100 miles of trails and large play meadows.

Trail quality is another major point of pride. Our crew sets the standard for excellent trails and grooming. We operate three Snowcats for grooming plus five drag groomers that are pulled by snowmobiles. Trail maintenance takes a lot of effort and our team is the best in the business. On a snowmobile ride with us, you won’t be worrying about washboard sections or nasty dips. You’ll be free to enjoy the incredible scenery and an experience like nowhere else!

Finally, the private ranch experience is ultimately comfortable thanks to wonderful facilities. We’re proud to welcome guests to our cozy cabin here at the ranch. No outhouses or temporary check-in trailers at this operation! Our base is nestled in a scenic valley with incredible views. The cabin is a great place for customers to relax, with wood burning stoves, fully equipped restrooms and a 5,000 square-foot deck overlooking the valley.

The best ranch and the greatest facilities wouldn’t mean what they do without our incredible team. Our people are still what make a Sage experience truly special. But having the opportunity to operate in such an incredible location sure doesn’t hurt!
