Preparing For an Awesome Snowmobile Season

We are getting ready for an awesome snowmobile season here at Sage Outdoor Adventures! The sleds are getting tuned and ready, trail groomers are ready to rock and the snow is starting to fall in the Colorado high country!

Here at Sage, we are proud to offer our guests the very best snowmobile technology. We have a stable of 90 great sleds! We use all Ski-Doo snowmobiles. They are highly fuel-efficient four-stroke machines. They are incredibly quiet and offer superb handling.

With these high-end snowmobiles, we put our focus on our guests’ most-requested tour – and that’s the two-hour guided snowmobile tour. This is a perfect snowmobile experience for beginning riders. Skiing for half a day? Perfect! It’s so close to Vail and Beaver Creek, this is an ideal experience!

In addition to our two-hour guided tour, we also offer trips specifically for advanced riders. But no matter what tour you choose, our guides are there to be teachers. That is a major focus for all of our snowmobiling trips.

Our tours are NOT a “follow me and keep up” experience. We teach our guests how to ride their snowmobiles and have more fun on the snow. In fact, 50 yards from our starting point are some incredible practice meadows. Guests have the opportunity to learn the feel of their sled in a perfect, wide open setting. There are a total of 10 free-ride meadows scattered throughout our 6,000-acre playground.

Here at Sage, we have the benefit of operating on a massive, 6,000-acre private ranch. What does that mean for you? It means a comfortable base of operations with a heated lodge and real restrooms – not a port-o-potty beside Forest Service road. It also means 100 miles of perfectly groomed trails, views from the edge of the Eagle River Canyon, trails with views of six different mountain ranges and an unbelievable variety of terrain.

We operate with a very small guide-to-guest ratio. Therefore, we can customize every tour to each group. No two tours around here are ever the same! We want all of our guests to appreciate the joy and freedom of snowmobiling.

For more information about snowmobile tours with Sage Outdoor Adventures, please take a look at our Snowmobiling Page. If you have specific questions or would like to reserve your tour, please give us a call at 970-476-3700 or contact us online.

We look forward to seeing you on a Colorado snowmobile ride this season!

Thanks for a Great Summer Season – See You on the Snow!

Sage Outdoor Adventures is officially closed for the summer season. We’d like to give a shout out to all of our summer guests – thank you for joining us on a Colorado outdoor adventure this year! We enjoyed meeting each one of you and we look forward to seeing you again.

The summer of 2017 was a memorable one. With huge snowpack coming into the spring, we enjoyed some incredible rafting trips.  From right here in the Vail valley on Gore Creek and the Eagle River, down to the Colorado River and even the Arkansas, water conditions were ideal this year.

All that spring moisture also meant that we had a beautiful wildflower season on the ranch near Vail. Our horseback riders and side-by-side ATV riders had the opportunity to enjoy huge fields of wildflowers and green conditions throughout most of the summer. There’s no bad time to explore the ranch on horseback or ATV. But when there are flowers popping everywhere, it’s sure hard to beat.

As the summer season is now closed, we are anxiously looking forward to snowfall! We will open our winter snowmobiling operation just in time for Thanksgiving. If you’re planning a holiday trip to Vail or Beaver Creek, be sure to give us a call. Snowmobile rides are a ton of fun for the entire family. This historic ranch is larger than Vail ski area! And the views of the valley are absolutely incredible. So take a few hours away from the bustle of the ski areas and enjoy a peaceful, backcountry ride through this winter wonderland.

For more information on our snowmobile trips, please check out our snowmobiling page. For details or to reserve your trip, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 970-476-3700 or contact us online.

See you on the snow soon!

September in Colorado is as Good as it Gets

It has been a wonderful rafting and summer season here in the Vail Valley. Thanks to all the wonderful folks who have joined Sage Outdoor Adventures this summer – it has been a blast!

As the nights get a little cooler, it’s beginning to feel a little bit more like fall here in the Colorado high country. Soon, the aspens will be turning a bright golden color. And for many of us here in Colorado, September is one of the best months of the year!

With bright blue skies and the shimmering of the yellow aspen leaves, this is a spectacular time to experience a mountain adventure. In fact, it’s a very popular season for both horseback riding and side-by-side ATV tours.

Horseback riding here on the ranch in September is an awesome experience. You’ll ride through old growth aspen stands and witness incredible scenery. And in typical Sage fashion, these are not your average nose-to-tail horseback rides. Being on a 6,000 acre private ranch means that we aren’t restricted to designated Forest Service trails. We can explore the entire place, and ride freely through this historic ranch that’s larger than the Vail ski area!

Side-by-side rides are also a great way to see Colorado in September. These rides also take place on this expansive private ranch, where you’ll have incredible view of the entire Vail valley.  In addition to the adjoining public land, we’ve got more than 20,000 acres of wild country to explore!

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the incredible rafting opportunities here in Colorado in September. While high water season may have passed, there are still some fun and wonderfully scenic river trips to experience in September around Vail and Beaver Creek.

And finally, this is one of the best times of year to experience fly fishing in Colorado. In September, big brown trout begin moving in advance of their fall spawn. And rainbow and cutthroat trout take advantage of grasshoppers and big hatches of late summer insects as they prepare for the lean winter.

If you find yourself in Vail or Beaver Creek this September, consider yourself one of the lucky ones! Because it’s between the peak summer and ski seasons, things are usually a little bit quieter. Take advantage of it, and find some adventure!

Update On Summer Rafting Conditions

The whitewater-rafting season in Colorado is in full swing and we’ve enjoyed an awesome summer so far. With heavy spring snowpack across the state, we’ve experienced fun high water conditions throughout June and now well into July. Even as the summer moves along, most rivers are still running at normal or above normal levels.

Whitewater Rafting

Right here in the Vail valley we experienced outstanding rafting conditions on Gore Creek and the Eagle River. Now the Arkansas River and the Colorado River are also running at perfect levels. And with the warm summer weather that we’ve had, conditions have been ideal to be out playing in the water.

While our headquarters are here in Vail and most of our business comes from the Vail and Beaver Creek area, we offer a wide range of rafting options. From class II family floats to class IV and V adventures, it’s all available. In addition to our ‘home waters’ on Gore Creek, the Eagle River and the Colorado River, we also offer trips along the Arkansas, including the famed, “Numbers” section and Browns Canyon National Monument.

In case you didn’t see it, be sure and check out our blog post from last week, highlighting the Arkansas River and some of its highlights.

Rafting TripWith warm weather and great water levels, we expect rafting conditions this year to be excellent well into the fall. If you’re planning a summer trip to the Vail or Beaver Creek area, be sure and give us a call. While the summertime rafting is awesome, there’s also something very special about those early fall trips. After all, there’s nothing quite like September in Colorado!
